Home birth midwifery care is one of the most important choices you will ever have in the life of your child. Choosing the environment — be it your home, a birthing center, or a hospital — where you and your baby will feel the most safe, supported, respected, and honored is a great responsibility and only the beginning of your parenting journey! As home birth midwives, we are watchful, gentle guardians of natural birth. Birth is physiological, but it is also mental, emotional and spiritual. To support each stage of pregnancy, birth and the postpartum, we must nurture all aspects of the family’s well being.
It is our experience that clients and families benefit more from care that aids in facilitating their individual process as opposed to care that doles out routine instructions to all clients. It is our goal to help each family uncover how they wish to carry out the pregnancy, birth and postpartum period by providing information that is honest and non-coercive and by supporting the family as a whole.
For the vast majority of healthy clients with healthy pregnancies, the birth takes place without need for intervention. Uninterrupted, non-intervention based care with a provider who protects, promotes and supports natural birth is the best choice for those who desire a natural birth. We know that home birth is every bit as safe as hospital birth for a healthy client and baby. Studies continue to demonstrate that outcomes of planned home births are every bit as successful as hospital births, with reduced rates of interventions including: labor induction, labor augmentation, episiotomy and cesarean section. Equally as important, those who desire a natural birth report greater satisfaction and empowerment from their home birth experiences.

MICHELLE BOROK, Nourish Midwifery Services and Take Root Home Insemination Services

"I love my work as a midwife: supporting growing families in such a variety of ways is one of my greatest joys, and I find it deeply satisfying to hold space for natural birth to unfold in as undisturbed a manner as possible. I bring a decade of study in nutritional, herbal, & energetic wellness, and years of work in the realms of female empowerment & reproductive justice. I believe that both the human body and the childbearing cycle are sacred, and that home midwifery care honors and protects the precious rites of passage therein.” Michelle is a California Licensed Midwife. Her background includes a comprehensive academic and clinical training at Maternidad La Luz, a high-volume freestanding birth center on the border in El Paso, Texas. She has also worked with traditional and autonomous midwives in Morelos and Chiapas, Mexico. She considers her clients, their babies, and birth itself to be her greatest teachers. She has attended over 160 births both at home and in birth centers, each entirely unique.
Michelle is also offering Home Insemination Services to couples and single-parents-to-be who are building their families via donor insemination. This includes fertility guidance (nutritional, herbal, and timing, timing, timing!) and intrauterine inseminations (IUIs) in the comfort of your home.
Michelle’s holds a B.A. in Social Welfare from U.C. Berkeley. She has taught several classes and workshops, including Female Sexuality at U.C. Berkeley and Legacies of Medical Racism and Transgender Competency for Healthcare Providers at Maternidad La Luz Midwifery School.
